X-Rays and AI Are Helping Retailers Catch Fraudulent Returns

Published:
February 5, 2026

Wall Street Journal reports on new partnership with ReturnPro and Clarity, a startup using X-ray imaging and artificial intelligence to help retailers detect fraudulent and counterfeit returns. ReturnPro will deploy the technology in several U.S. facilities to address rising returns fraud, which has grown alongside generous return policies and higher online shopping volumes. Through this partnership, retailers can speed up returns processing, reduce labor-intensive inspections, and prevent counterfeit items from reentering resale channels while helping retailers identify repeat fraudsters.
